Rock Quest 90030 Assessment Composition

Smoke Free Rock Quest
Dear students of Opotiki College, today I am going to inform you of how our school band went at the 2009 Smoke free Rock Quest that happened in the weekend. A Rock Quest is as competition where all the school bands meet up and rock out in front of a real audience and compete to be the best in New Zealand.

For you students who didn’t know but, our school has a band called “Untouchables” There are 5 students in the school band, Alex (lead singer), Brendon (backup vocals) Leon (drums), Willy (lead guitar) and George (base guitar). Together they have been working extremely hard in their spear time over the past term to put all their musical notes together, and come up with a great catchy sound, that would “Wow” the judges.

And in doing so they travelled all the way down to the Music Theatre in Taranga on the weekend and they all tried their absolute hardest and put in 120% effort 120% of the time they spent down there. And it certainly paid off, not only did they win the competition, they also broke the record for the most genres they could play in the one song, which gave them an extra $1,000 which they could spend on improving their instruments and equipment (which believe me, it really needs doing).

So the team travelled down to Taranga in the school minivan and set up base camp at the cheapest broken down camping site you would ever see, they rock n rolled all weekend long. Having the time of their lives, with the crowd going wild the band never wanted to leave. They wanted to stay there and live the life of a “Rockstar”. But it was all over too soon they thought, and when Sunday came around it was time to pack up and begin the long journey home. So there we have it students. We can be proud to say that we have the best band in New Zealand!

Album-Orientated Rock 90030 Assessment

Album-Orientated Rock
Originally designed to describe a radio format that emphasises various album tracks rather than hit singles only. When broadcasters began to apply structured formatic techniques to the so-called “free form” underground radio of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, the result was the more commercial and more profitable album-orientated rock. The format became even more restrictive, scrapping the various-album-tracks approach in favour of concentrating airplay on one “emphasis track” at a time from an album, and the term album-orientated rock was replaced in the ‘90s by “rock” or “rock tracks”.

Album orientated rock has also come to describe a certain style of rock, usually the mainstream or “corporate” brand as opposed to more extreme styles. A caution British writers frequently interpret the acronym to stand for “Adult-Orientated Rock,” and thus misuse album-orientated rock to describe pop artists whom Americans would more commonly describe as ‘adult contemporary” or even ‘middle of the road.”

Music Television
The first full-time music video network on cable television, signed on in the United States in 1981. Music television immediately made the visual image of an artist as important as the music itself, resulting in huge success for groups that were telegenic enough to appeal to viewers. Duran Duran, Culture Club and George Michael were some of the first performers to feel the impact of music television on their careers. In the long run, videos became an essential promotional tool for virtually all rock artists, and many artists embraced video as another avenue for artistic expression.

Detractors, however, say that the pervasiveness of music videos means that listeners no longer conjure up their own images when listening to a song; the images have already been conjured up for them, eliminating the pleasure – and responsibility – of using one’s imagination.

Women and Alcohol 90030 Composition

Do you think that lowering the drinking age to 18 was a good idea?

Well I could have a big long debate with someone about this because I agree and disagree about them lowering the drinking age, at the legal age of 18 I think that you’d find that a lot of the drinkers are very sensible of how much they drink and how often, where as some of them are less responsible and drink often. This to me would be a hard topic to choose a side of which to debate on for I can not make up my mind.

The good points about the drinking age being lowered is that you don’t have to wait as long before you are at the legal age and can go out and have a good time with or without company and not worry about being underage, and the liquor store owners would stay in business and not have to worry about as many under age people trying to come in and purchase anything. But then there’s the bad point about the drinking age being lowered which I think most people are concerned about is, that there will become more drunk and careless drivers driving around on the roads. But I strongly think that they should not lower the drinking age any lower than 18 because that would be just silly because 16 is too young and their bodies may not have fully developed so they might not be able to handle the amount of alcohol that they consume which could get them seriously hurt.

Who gets to have the final say in weather or not they change the drinking age? I think that they (the people who are in charge of changing the drinking age) should send out a survey asking everyone on what their opinion is and giving everyone a chance to have their say in what happens, and then decide weather or not to change it back up.

And some people say that young women are going out and drinking more then what they used to, but they do not know why because everything is the same as it was 20 years ago. So another question they are asking is. Why are they doing it? What is making them go out and get smashed up?

So yes, I truly don’t know what to think about this topic. But I do wonder sometimes why they lowered the drinking age anyway? And now they think that was a bad idea and want to change it again? Think of the disappointment all those teenagers will feel who were all excited about their 18th birthday so they could go drink in front of a cop and not get in trouble, well maybe not do that, but I think you get my idea I am trying to make.

Women and Alcohol Assesment 90030

Women and Alcohol

She has a glass or two of wine and feels it go straight to her head. He has the same amount to drink and feels fine.

Researches confirm something many woman have always suspected- it takes less alcohol for a woman to feel tipsy than it does for a man, and it’s not all to do with body size. Even if a woman is the same weight as a man and drinks the same amount of alcohol, she will end up with a blood alcohol level a third higher than his. It will also take longer for her body to eliminate the alcohol from her blood.

Why alcohol affects woman more than men and is potentially more harmful is one of a number of topics covered in a booklet produced by the Alcohol Advisory Council.

Alcohol affects women more than men because women have a higher proportion of body fat and less water in their bodies than men. This means that once it is in the bloodstream of a woman, the alcohol is not as diluted and has a stronger effect. So even if a woman is the same size as a man, she will generally be affected more quickly and feel the effects for much longer than the man will.

Both males and females have an enzyme in their stomach designed to process alcohol into a safer substance, yet for reasons that are not yet clear to scientists, this enzyme is 70-80 percent more effective in men than in woman. If the liver of a healthy young woman is compared with that of a healthy young man, it will generally take her liver longer to process one drink than his, and a person starts to feel drunk when they drink alcohol faster than their liver can process it.

New Zealand research has found more women are drinking and the amount of alcohol consumed by women is increasing. Young women are also drinking more, and what is particularly concerning is that a significant proportion of young woman are adopting a pattern of drinking similar to their male counterparts-that is, consuming large amounts of alcohol in one go.

Other topics included in the booklet are alcohol and women’s health, alcohol and sex, alcohol and pregnancy and alcohol and breastfeeding. There is also a guide to how much is too much and a section on getting help and advice.

Word personalities

Many words can be presented in a way that suggests their meaning. You could do this with individual letters (e.g. Triangle), the overall shape of the word (e.g. Banana), or applied decoration (e.g. Spider). You can use this when making a pamphlet, poster or anything else as to where you would like your words to stand out or be eye catching.
To draw up these words I used the Microsoft Word and Paint programmes. The toughest thing to draw up for me would probably of been the 'Fish' because I had to get the letters to look like the actual fish which was quite difficult. And the easiest word would have been 'Waves' because all I had to do was type the word in, blow it up and add a bit of colour.

Learning to Keyboard

Last year in Information Management I learnt how to type with the right fingers and now I am learning to do it faster and maybe be able to touch type by the end of the year. At the start of the year my typing speed was rather slow at about 35wpm but I have gradually gotten faster.Today my Keyboarding skills have improved in speed from 48wpm to 58wpm.

Setting up the blog

I found that setting up the blog was easy, but the only problem I had was that I keep forgetting my password so I have to keep changing it. I think that my teacher helped make it easy by writing up on the board step by step of how to do it.
