Do you think that lowering the drinking age to 18 was a good idea?
Well I could have a big long debate with someone about this because I agree and disagree about them lowering the drinking age, at the legal age of 18 I think that you’d find that a lot of the drinkers are very sensible of how much they drink and how often, where as some of them are less responsible and drink often. This to me would be a hard topic to choose a side of which to debate on for I can not make up my mind.
The good points about the drinking age being lowered is that you don’t have to wait as long before you are at the legal age and can go out and have a good time with or without company and not worry about being underage, and the liquor store owners would stay in business and not have to worry about as many under age people trying to come in and purchase anything. But then there’s the bad point about the drinking age being lowered which I think most people are concerned about is, that there will become more drunk and careless drivers driving around on the roads. But I strongly think that they should not lower the drinking age any lower than 18 because that would be just silly because 16 is too young and their bodies may not have fully developed so they might not be able to handle the amount of alcohol that they consume which could get them seriously hurt.
Who gets to have the final say in weather or not they change the drinking age? I think that they (the people who are in charge of changing the drinking age) should send out a survey asking everyone on what their opinion is and giving everyone a chance to have their say in what happens, and then decide weather or not to change it back up.
And some people say that young women are going out and drinking more then what they used to, but they do not know why because everything is the same as it was 20 years ago. So another question they are asking is. Why are they doing it? What is making them go out and get smashed up?
So yes, I truly don’t know what to think about this topic. But I do wonder sometimes why they lowered the drinking age anyway? And now they think that was a bad idea and want to change it again? Think of the disappointment all those teenagers will feel who were all excited about their 18th birthday so they could go drink in front of a cop and not get in trouble, well maybe not do that, but I think you get my idea I am trying to make.
